Opening Ceremony
Running and Swimming
This last week presented a few fun opportunities for Michelle and I to get to know some of the students on Kwajalein. On Monday, we were invited to share ‘our story’ with the high school church group, Youth Friends. Michelle offered part of her testimony in regards to her dating life growing up and I also shared many of my past choices in regards to relationships. Then we were able to talk about what a God centered marriage can look like and what a blessing that has been in our lives. It was fun to see that high school kids are still just as silly and genuine here as they are back in the states.
On Saturday (Kwaj’s last day of the work week), Michelle was a celebrity judge along with other visible members of the community at the school’s 6th grade Olympics competition . Different teams shared portions of Greek history before competing in a variety of sporting events including tug of war, biathlon, and paper airplane throwing (with help from some of the island’s MIT aerodynamics specialists). I was even recruited to be a judge for the creative diving portion of the afternoon. Michelle proved to be the equivalent of the East German judge as she required pointed toes and good form to give up any ‘10’s.
